President Reagan was tall, physically fit (he loved strenuous outdoor work on his California ranch) and handsome ?as a movie star? (which of course he was). I included The Bronco Buster (1895) ? a favorite of his collection of Frederic Remington western bronzes (the original is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York). I painted my own hands in this portrait; I believe that the President?s hands were more finely shaped than mine.
