Sixteenth President of the United States
The President is shown standing in the State Dining Room of the White House. The architectural pilasters, one of which appears in the portrait, are unique to this room and the East Room. The gilded lighting sconces in this style, are also unique. The President’s left hand rests on a Bible, which in turn rests on an exquisite circular table crafted by Charles-Honore Lannuier. In the State Dining Room would later hang, as it does today, Lincoln’s official portrait, painted by George P. A. Healy in 1869.
