James E. Rogers, Jr.
CEO, Duke Energy
Duke Energy is the largest electric power generating company in the United States. Duke Energy's history began more than a century ago when James Buchanan Duke (his granddaughter's portrait appears elsewhere in this exhibition) led a group that built a system of lakes and dams along the Catawba River in North Carolina to generate electricity that would drive the economic growth of the Piedmont Carolinas.
James E. Rogers, Jr. was president and CEO of Duke Energy from April, 2006 until July 1, 2013. He stayed on as chairman of the board until retiring the following December. His book, Lighting the World, which explores the issues involved in bringing electricity to the over 1.2 billion people on earth who lack it, was published in 2015 by St. Martin's Press.
